Malaysia has one of the lowest rate of deceased organ transplant in the world. This is due to many factors; one of which is the lack of formal training in the most important process of organ donation - the initial part e.g identifying potential organ donors, brain death, organ maintainance, organ procurement, communication skills and the laws involved.
UiTM together with UM were chosen to represent Malaysia in collaborating with University of Barcelona, the DTI-TPM Foundation and 6 other SEA universities to start an academic programme on Organ Donation and Transplantation called the ODISSeA.
This is hoped to be the beginning of our very own academic programme for the country which in turn will lead to the increase in the numbers of our deceased organ donation and transplantation.
